I strongly believe that one of the reasons why pipeline approvals keep getting delayed and bills such as C-69 move forward are because the Liberal government’s support base in central Canada doesn’t understand the importance of our energy industry to the wellbeing of all of Canada.

As part of the Official Opposition, when we see the federal budget, we are naturally going to look for places to criticize. Budget 2017 doesn’t give me a lot of opportunities to do that – not because the measures it takes aren’t questionable – but instead it refuses to make nearly any choices or take nearly any measures at all.

I wanted to take a moment to update you on what happened yesterday in Ottawa. At the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance I asked to undertake a study into Alberta’s economy and current unemployment levels.
I want to thank the many of you for your emails to me on taxing health and dental benefits. The Official Opposition completely agrees that such a tax is not only detrimental to hardworking families that rely on employer-provided health and dental benefits, but also simply represents an increased tax grab by the current government.
As 2017 unfolds Albertans remain concerned with the many uncertainties that exist in their everyday lives. It is my hope that when the calendar closes on this year the future will become a little more clear.
